Zion Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Southwestern Minnesota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Through the SW MN Synod we are connected to over 200 Lutheran Christian congregations in our area. Through the ELCA we are connected to thousands more!
As a congregation in the Watonwan River Conference we are also partners with the congregations of the Shiyane Circuit of the Southeastern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Southern Africa.
Parish history
Lutherans in our area have worked together since congregations were first being started by Norwegian Lutheran immigrants to Minnesota. Teaming up with other nearby communities allowed local churches to call pastors and found new worshiping communities while still serving the people who lived nearby. Our faith ancestors carefully planted churches based on how far people could reasonably travel to worship.
Over the years, as the world around us has changed, so have our congregations and their partnerships. Some congregations have closed, but their legacies continue. We particularly give thanks for the ministries of Linden Lutheran Church (closed in 2010) and LaSalle Lutheran Church (closed in 2018).
